Texas holds the sharpest disagreement between measures in this dataset. The Houston filling station is third of 87 on reported traffic at 960 visitors a day, sits near the bottom of the exposure table at about 56 visitor-hours, and agreed 50% of net — the top of the share range.
Figures below come from the 87 signed listings open on PinPoint Vending’s marketplace on October 5, 2026. Traffic is venue-reported and unaudited; no listing reports sales.
By the numbers
| Measure | Texas |
|---|---|
| Signed placements | 4 |
| Reporting a visitor count | 3 of 4 |
| Convertible into visitor-hours | 1 of 4 |
| Median share | 50% of net — the record’s highest |
| Houston rank on traffic | 3rd of 87 |
| Houston rank on visitor-hours | Near the bottom of 44 |
What is on the record for Texas
Four venues, four venue types, four weeks.
| Field | Katy | Lubbock | Houston | Amarillo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Venue type | Mall | Indoor soccer | Filling station | Hotel |
| Tier | Standard | Standard | Premium | Premium |
| Signed | Jun 15, 2026 | Jul 8, 2026 | Jul 15, 2026 | Jul 28, 2026 |
| Reported visitors | Not stated | 45,000 a year, 120 a day | 350,000 a year, 960 a day | 100,000 a year, 270 a day |
| Visitor-hours a day | Not calculable | Not calculable | about 56 | Not calculable |
| Revenue share | 50% of net | Not stated | 50% of net | 40% of net |
| Machine | Flexible | Cotton candy | Cotton candy | Cotton candy |
Only Houston can be converted: filling stations carry a published visit length of three to four minutes, while malls, hotels and indoor soccer centres have none. Katy also reports no visitor count, and Lubbock states no share.
Three measures, three different answers
Houston is the dataset’s clearest demonstration that traffic, captive time and share are separate things.
| Measure | Houston’s position |
|---|---|
| Reported visitors a day | 960 — 3rd of 87, behind an ice rink at 1,100 and a forecourt at 990 |
| Visitor-hours a day | about 56 — among the lowest of the 44 convertible listings |
| Share agreed | 50% of net — joint top, with eleven other placements |
The conversion is doing the work. Nine hundred and sixty visitors at three to four minutes each is a great many people and very little time: a forecourt sells on footfall, not on dwell. The method is set out in our ranking of vending locations.
| Placement | Visitors a day | Visit length | Visitor-hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tyngsborough, Massachusetts (bowling) | 680 | 2.7 h | about 1,836 |
| Houston, Texas (filling station) | 960 | about 3.5 min | about 56 |
Tyngsborough sees 30% fewer people and produces more than thirty times the exposure. Both are real figures about real venues, and anyone comparing the two needs to say which measure they mean.
The only state with a 50% median
Texas’s four listings produce a median of 50% of net, which no other state in the record reaches. Three state a share: 50%, 50% and 40%.
| State | Placements stating a share | Median |
|---|---|---|
| Texas | 3 | 50% |
| Mississippi | 6 | 40% (mean 42.5%) |
| Ohio, California | 6 each | 40% |
| New York | 5 | 40% |
| Wisconsin | 7 | 40% |
The explanation is venue kind rather than Texan generosity. Both Texas venues at 50% are pass-through sites — a forecourt and a mall — and eleven of the twelve placements at 50% across the whole record are venues of that type. The one Texas destination venue that states a share, the Amarillo hotel, took 40%. Beyond the Texas row, what the revenue-share data shows across all 87 placements holds what a Texas row cannot.
What the Texas record is missing
The four metros, and the four categories the dataset leans on. Texas shows a forecourt, a mall, a hotel and an indoor soccer centre; bowling alleys, trampoline parks, indoor playgrounds and family entertainment centres supply 44 of the 87 national placements and none of Texas’s.
Dallas, Fort Worth, San Antonio and Austin appear nowhere at all, which for the second most populous state in the country is a very narrow sample — four venues, none in the three largest metropolitan areas. Vending machine locations by state shows where every state stands.
Frequently asked questions
How many vending machine placements does Texas have?
Four in the record collected on October 5, 2026: a Houston filling station, an Amarillo hotel, a Lubbock indoor soccer centre and a Katy mall.
What is unusual about the Houston listing?
It is third of 87 on reported traffic at 960 visitors a day and near the bottom of the exposure table at about 56 visitor-hours, because a filling-station visit is counted at three to four minutes.
What is the Texas median share?
Fifty per cent of net, the highest state median in the record. Two of the four Texas venues agreed it and both are pass-through sites.
How many Texas listings can be ranked?
One. Houston converts because filling stations carry a published visit length; the hotel, the indoor soccer centre and the mall do not, and the mall reports no count either.
What does Texas settle about the dataset?
That traffic, captive time and share are three different measures. Houston leads on one, trails on another and tops the third, in a single listing.
