Idaho has no signed placement, and neither does any state it touches. Measured properly, Idaho is not an isolated gap but the middle of the largest unworked area in this dataset: a run of blank states stretching from the Cascades to the western Plains.
Figures below come from the 87 signed listings open on PinPoint Vending’s marketplace on October 5, 2026. Traffic is venue-reported and unaudited; no listing reports sales.
By the numbers
| Measure | Idaho |
|---|---|
| Signed placements | 0 |
| Bordering states with placements | 1 of 6 (Washington) |
| Nearest signed venue | Kennewick, Washington |
| Contiguous blank interior-west states | 7 |
| States with no placement | 21 of 50 |
| National median share, for reference | 40% of net |
How big is the blank Idaho sits in?
Big enough that describing Idaho alone understates it. Seven interior-west states adjoin one another without a signed placement between them, and the Dakotas and Montana extend the same emptiness north and east.
| Idaho’s neighbours | Signed placements |
|---|---|
| Montana | 0 |
| Wyoming | 0 |
| Utah | 0 |
| Nevada | 0 |
| Oregon | 0 |
| Washington | 1 |
One placement in six bordering states, and that one — an indoor playground in Kennewick — sits near the Washington–Oregon line about 150 miles from Boise and more than 300 from Coeur d’Alene.
For an operator the reading is straightforward. A locator working Idaho would not be extending an adjacent route; it would be opening a region. That is a different proposition from adding a venue in Indiana, where placements sit in every neighbouring state, and it should be priced differently.
What can a regional blank tell you, and what can it not?
A regional blank tells you where a route network has not reached. It does not tell you whether venues here would sign, because the record contains only signatures — no declines, no approaches, no market tests.
Three explanations fit the pattern equally and the data separates none: distance from the signed clusters in the Midwest, South and coastal California; the cost of servicing a long thin route; or simply where a 2026 sales effort spent its time. Nothing here rules any of them in.
What can be ruled out is a coverage decision. Only Alaska and Hawaii are named as outside the locator’s service area; Idaho is inside it and unworked, which makes its zero a statement about activity rather than policy — the same distinction vending machine locations by state applies across the table.
Does Idaho have the venues?
In one part of it, clearly. The Treasure Valley — Boise, Meridian, Nampa, Caldwell — has grown fast enough to build out the four categories that carry the national record.
| Venue type | National placements | Median visitors a day | Visitor-hours a day |
|---|---|---|---|
| Family entertainment centre | 11 | 178 | 445 |
| Trampoline park | 7 | 274 | 411 |
| Bowling alley | 18 | 137 | 370 |
| Indoor playground | 15 | 110 | 164 |
The right-hand column converts footfall into hours of exposure, which is what a machine sells into, following the method behind our ranking of vending locations.
Idaho’s complication is shape rather than supply. The state runs roughly 480 miles north to south with its population split between the southwest and the panhandle, and no direct route between them. A locator claiming Idaho is claiming at least two unconnected markets, and the record gives no reason to believe either has been worked.
What would an Idaho venue be worth, on national figures?
An estimate, labelled as one, since nothing here is local.
| Reference figure | National record |
|---|---|
| Median venue share | 40% of net |
| Range | 30% to 50% |
| Pass-through venues | 50% of net |
| Destination venues | 40%, sometimes 30% |
| Minimum term | 16 months, every listing |
| Operator keeps per $8 sale at 40% | $3.72 |
Treating the $1.80 cost of goods in the agreements as the operator’s whole cost per sale, before card fees.
The variable the table cannot carry is service distance. Every placement in this record sits within reach of another; an Idaho machine would not, at least at first. Service cost per visit is the quiet figure that decides whether a placement at the median share is a business, and it is absent from every column here.
What would change Idaho’s position?
A first placement anywhere in the interior west, not specifically in Idaho. Because the blank is regional, the informative event is a route reaching the area at all — after which Boise is a reasonable next stop rather than an isolated outpost.
Until then the honest reading is that Idaho is unmeasured rather than unpromising, and that applying mainland-cluster medians to it imports assumptions about service distance that this record never tests. How to find vending machine locations covers the method where no locator has worked the ground.
Frequently asked questions
How many vending machine placements does Idaho have on the record?
None. Idaho is one of 21 states with no signed placement in the marketplace listings collected on October 5, 2026, and it sits inside a block of seven contiguous interior-west states that are all blank.
What is the nearest signed placement to Idaho?
A single indoor playground in Kennewick, Washington — roughly 150 miles from Boise and considerably further from the Idaho panhandle. No placement exists in Montana, Wyoming, Nevada, Utah, Colorado, Arizona or New Mexico either.
Does the blank mean the market is bad?
The record cannot support that. It covers one locator’s signed venues over a single 2026 season, so a blank region most plausibly reflects where a route network reaches. Nothing in the data measures demand.
Does Idaho have the venue types that sign elsewhere?
Around Boise, Meridian and Nampa, yes — bowling alleys, indoor playgrounds, family entertainment centres and trampoline parks all exist there, and the Treasure Valley has grown quickly.
What would an Idaho venue be paid?
Only a national estimate: a median of 40% of net across 81 signed placements, with pass-through venues at 50% and destination venues at 40% or 30%. Nothing in the data is Idaho-specific.
